BYU or bust

Once a year I get together with all of my college buddies to play golf and talk about the old times. This year was a little different. This year I decided to take Boston with me to be a part of the whole experience. We left Wednesday night after gymnastics and headed up to Utah. We decided to stop at Page, AZ to see my dad and say hi. We were both not feeling too well and did not rest too well. Boston woke up at 6:15 a.m. and told me that we needed to get on the road! He really wanted to make sure that we were not late for our tee time that evening in Bountiful. He cracks me up. We got up and headed out. We got into Provo around 1:00 p.m. local time and headed to the BYU bookstore to get some gear for the BYU game. Boston wanted a big, blue BYU fro along with a claw that you put over your hand and a BYU shirt and football. We got some other shirts for the kids and then headed up to Utah. I also wanted to stop by the church history center in downtown Salt Lake City so that I could get a copy of my patriarichal blessing. I lost my copy over a year ago and needed to get another copy. While we were there we went over to the church conference center and got a quick tour. Boston had a great time on the tour and we got all the way down to the front. It was cool to see how big it was and to see it up close in person. Boston was clearly impressed. After the tour we headed up to Bountiful to play some golf. Boston almost jumped out of the car as we pulled into the lot. He really wanted to drive the cart. We were able to play on the practice green for a while before everyone else got there. He had a great time and putted very well. When the guys started to show up they all gave Boston attention and he ate it up. He would take turns teeing off after we hit. He did well considering he does not play all that often. Bountiful Ridge was the course that we played. There were deer all over the course. Boston had fun watching the deer and chasing some of them around the course. After the round we headed to red lobster and had dinner. Dinner dragged on forever and Boston was being very impatient. He wanted to get up t to the cabin to see if other boys were there. We finally left Red Lobster and headed up to Park City to see the others. When we got there most of the guys were there. It was awesome to see everyone again. It is cool that we have been able to stay in touch all these years. It has been 20 years since we met at BYU our freshmen year. We stayed up and talked for a while. Some of the guys started to play poker, but I headed to bed around 11:00 p.m.

The next morning we were up at 6:00 a.m. for golf. We all got the course on time since it is right around the corner from Nate's cabin. It was awesome to get out early and feel the cold. It was hard to get a feel for the game until the 10th hole when it started to warm up. I played alright and Boston was quick to cheer for me when I hit a good shot. It was fun to have him with me and to cheer me on. After the round we headed over and had lunch. Boston ate up his lunch and then we headed over to the outlets to check them out. There wasn't anything really that good so we headed back to the cabin. It was free time for everyone so we played catch out front with the football and then went over to the golf course and played on the practice green again for a while. We also went over to my friend Pat's condo and swam and played table tennis. Boston had a great time and loved swimming. It was fun and we really had a great time together. That night we stayed around the house and got something to eat and just chilled.
The next morning we got to sleep in a little and then headed down the canyon to Mountain Dell to play the last round of golf. I was able to play with Jeff and Hans and Boston. We had a great round. We got to see a fox, a wolverine and more deer. Boston really had a great time watching the wildlife, golfing and driving the cart. He was really excited to get to the BYU game that evening. We finished golf grabbed lunch and then headed back to the cabin to pack up and head off to the game. There was a lot of construction in Provo Canyon which caused us to be 10 minutes late to the game. Boston almost jumped out of the car when I parked at the stadium. We ran to the gate and then got into the stadium. Boston had all of his gear on and was loving every minute of it. He cheered and screamed and ate his Nachos. He is all about the Nachos. That is what he wants whenever we go anywhere. BYU won the game and we had a great time cheering them on. I decided that I wanted to get home to the family so we left for home after the game. The roads were pretty open and we made great time. It took us 8 hours to get from Provo to our home in Peoria. Boston fell asleep 30 minutes into the trip home. He was out for most of the trip. I was glad that he was able to get some sleep. We got home and get a little sleep and then headed to chruch and had a great Sunday with the family. I was glad to be home and had a great time with my buddies. I am grateful that Rachel made it possible for me to go. I hope Boston had a memorable time and won't soon forget the trip that we had.
